  13. Plainly speaking, ISpell is a spelling checker with a few features
  14. you don't get anywhere else...
  15. Most importantly, unlike the unix spell program, ISpell is interactive.

  17. ISpell v3.3LJR can be used in two major modes:
  18.  
  19. 1. Original Interactive Mode (does not require ARexx):
  20. This mode will allow the user to interactively spell check and correct a
  21. text document.  Regular expression lookup of word patterns is possible.
  22. All operations are *fast* because ISpell uses an in-core hash table of
  23. words (i.e. no disk access once we get going).  This mode is considered
  24. obsolete by myself.  There are some problems related to window size
  25. (due to original port job) and usage from workbench (conversion to
  26. SAS/C from MANX) that I have never bothered to fix.  ISpell hooked to a
  27. good text editor via ARexx just works so much better that it seems not
  28. worth the effort...

  30. 2. ARexx Server Mode (of course ARexx server mode requires ARexx):
  31. This mode allows the end user to hook ISpell up to text
  32. editors and other things that need a spell checking service.
  33. Regular expression lookup of word patterns is also possible
  34. in ARexx Server Mode.  This mode appears to be even faster than
  35. the above mode, because ISpell stays in memory waiting for requests ---
  36. the mumble, mumble (500K) hash file only has to be loaded into
  37. memory once at startup time.

  39. Currently supported ARexx commands:
  40. Add, QuickAdd, Check, QuickCheck, FileCheck, ExtendedFileCheck, Lookup,
  41. Version, Exit.

  43. ARexx macros are provided for
  44. GUISpell 1.1 (package now included),
  45. CygnusEd Professional v2.12,
  46. TurboText (when used with GUISpell - Thanks Christopher A. Wichura),
  47. TurboText (with plain ISpell - Thanks Willy G. J. Langeveld),
  48. mg3beta4 or later(Thanks Mike Meyer!),
  49. GNU EMACS (Thanks Steve Koren!),
  50. VLT v5.517 or later,
  51. WShell, and the command line.
